Rather than having them sign their stars, could you have them sign the background fabric by the stars later? They could complete their star, put a piece of painter's tape or masking tape on it and sign it for temporary identifacation. When you have the background cut out and sewn (in a light colour fabric) tack down their stars and get a Pigma fabric fine pen and have them write their names on the background beside their star (then remove the tape)? It looks like there will be a small hole at the center of the star? I would attach the stars with a nice button sewn on through that spot.

I hope we got your juices flowing. I guess we were looking for a bit more information. Is this staying in the classroom? You mentioned something about an auction? It this being auctioned?

Don't know if I said this before, but they could also sign along the edge (with gold/silver paint pens) -(Wal-Mart has for Christmas cards and so does Hobby Lobby then put green, red stars, trees, bells, holly (small) between each name.

Please do let us see your finished product after it's done. I think you'll have alot of fun either way. (don't forget to send them all home with a candy cane) :)

Welcome to the board. What about finding a nice solid fabric to match and making a covered button to put in the center. Depending on the size of the button, circles of fabric could be drawn and have the student could put their initals in the center with a marker. The button could be assembled later. Each childs project would have their initals on the button in the center.

Our 6th Grade Class Christmas Tree Skirt & Ornament Ensemble! I appreciate everyone's input! I ended up making the skirt and I used a glittery gold satin to back the stars and make a bias binding to finish the edges of it. Time didn't allow us to make any fancy signatures, but the student were able to sign the backdrop stars in Gold to identify their work. Check out the matching ornaments we made too! (pic not so good)
I hope this fetches a good price at the auction. I'm already looking forward to next years project!
Thanks again!
