Sylvia,

I like stained glass also. I have found that they sell narrow strips of fabric in black, gold and green on rolls at quilt stores and Joanns that already has fusible web on the back of it. All you have to to is peel off the backing and fuse it on your quilt with an iron. It makes it real easy to create a lovely stainglass look. All you have to do is cutout your picture pieces and fuse or baste them to the background and then cover the raw edges with the "leading". If it is just a wallhanging that won't be laundered you don't even have to sew it down. If you want to sew it down you just zig zag or blanket stitch along both edges of the "leading".
The rolls are fairly expensive but you can get them at JoAnns with your %40 off coupon or when quilting notions are on sale. Even if you have to pay full price they save a world of work and are probably no more expensive then buying, cutting and fusing the strips yourself and a lot faster.

Good luck,

Mpspeedy
