Hi. I'm new to this board. have been reading some of the entries and like all the friendliness. I live in the State of Louisiana and I love to quilt. I am also a big animal lover and donate my free time, when not quilting, to the local animal shelter playing with the cats and brushing their coats. They love to be brushed. I just recently completed making 63 mini quilts to put into the cat cages in the cat adoption area at the shelter becuase the cats like to lay on something soft, other than the cold metal or newspaper in the bottom of their cages. The mini quilts helped me to clean out my fabric stash a lot. I attempted to make one quilt for each cage on adoption row for each day of the week. I also wash the dirty quilts for the shelter so that the staff doesn't have to do that. It was a fulfilling project for me. My own 6 spoiled cats were slightly jealous over all the attention given to the making of the mini quilts, but they seem to understand. I wish i had a photo to attach of myself at this time, but that will come later.

My cats here at home each have their own individual sleeping spots and also have mini quilts to lay on. My cats most likely must have been thinking I was making the quilts for them. When I am at my sewing machine, i have at least 3 of my furbabies in the quilting room with me. One lays on top of a cat condo, one lays on a side table and one lays on a storage bin i have under my sewing table. They are all curious of what i am doing, but I love it.

Welcome and thanks for making quilts for cats. I made cat nip mats a couple of years ago and gave them to my local shelter. They gave them to people adopting cats so the cats would have a toy to go home with.

Welcome Fratcat from another cat lover who likes to quilt. My Toby usually has to be right in my sewing room when I am sewing. Wonderful that you can help out at the pet shelter and I know the critters loved the mini quilts. You will love this site. Post some pics of some of your projects.

Welcome - We have three inside cats and our outside cats range anywhere from 6-12 at any given time we seem to be the neighborhood shelter for any stay cat. Our 2 dogs have their own cat that never leaves the back yard with them.

Hi and welcome from the sunny state of Florida!! I'm also a true CAT LOVER!!!

fratcat 05-28-2010 08:22 PM

thank you for all your lovely greetings. I went to the shelter this afternoon and brushed my furbabies and played for them, and while I was there one of my big boys was finally adopted. I am so happy that he got a forever home. I made his new family take his mini quilt so that he will have something familiar tonight in his new home. I love it when they are adopted. My sewing machine is in the shop until next week, so I will just cut fabric out this holiday weekend and get ready to quilt again next week. Happy Memorial Day weekend to everyone.
