It's an intro thread!

Hi there! I'm Amanda, and I live in Tallahassee, Florida. I'm a stay-at-home mom to two girls, plus a boy due in April. I homeschool my oldest. (Okay, the two-year-old thinks she does "schooly time" as well, but the five-year-old's is a bit more involved. ;)) I've been quilting for about 10 years, though you would think I would have a greater number of quilts to show for that amount of time!

Right now I have two in the works - a very simple one for the new baby, and another one based on the game Settlers of Catan. The Settlers quilt is my first experience with English paper piecing, and after spending a LOT of time looking at tutorials online, I think I'm getting the hang of it! For baby's quilt, I have the top done and am waiting for some batting I ordered to arrive so I can quilt it.

I look forward to getting to know you guys and talking quilts with you!

Hi mmeblue, I'm in south Georgia. Freezing this morning! I just joined this week too, though I've lurked, drooled at the wonderful work of all the beautiful work here for years.I've been quilting for years, hand quilting, still skardy-cat at the attempt of machine quilting. I hope to start trying soon. I have to say I admire you already since you English Paper piece, for I KNOW I will have a dickens of a time attempting that!Welcome.

Welcome home, Amanda. I say home because that is how I feel about this web site. I have been a member for a couple of years and I just love it. I find there is always someone willing to instruct, share, uplift me. There are great people on this board and many helping hands. Good luck with all you do and my best piece of advice: Enjoy your children while they are young. It goes too fast and you can't do it over again.

Thanks for the welcomes and the congratulations! :) Jitterbug, I do some machine quilting but I feel a lot less control that way, so I usually stick with hand quilting. I think part of my problem is that I am lazy when it comes to basting and don't do it as thoroughly as I should, so my backs get scrunched up with machine quilting, whereas with hand quilting I can stretch out the back as I go along.
