Hi and welcome from Iowa. This is a gorgeous quilt. Birthing means completing!!
|
Rather than having quilt top, batting, backing, quilting the quilt then put on binding. Birthing is sewing the top (batting) and backing right sides together leaving an opening large to turn the quilt right side out. Stitch the opening closed. Hope this makes sense to you. http://www.quiltingboard.com/search....=true&s=5&s=10 See if this link helps. Welcome from Louisiana:)

Welcome from another Texan. I think birthing means sewing the quilt right sides together leaving an opening and then pulling the quilt through the opening and sewing the opening closed. I may be wrong, though.

I might add that once you sew all the top, batting, and backing together. You turn it inside out (looks like baby coming out during birth all wadded up) you then tie the quilt together to hold the quilt together. It's a quick method for some to get quilts made for charities. Our local quilt shop does it twice a year to donate to homeless shelters, etc.
