Hi! I am LindaFaye from Liberty Missouri. I am back at my quilting stash, and would love to have more information on building a design board. Any help would be appreciated.

My husband made me one for Christmas. He took a piece of 1/4" masonite board. Framed it with plywood - to stabilize. Then we covered it in batting. Then covered it with some flannel that I got at Wal-mart. I added ribbon - for decoration and to be able to slide paper behind it.

I use my queen sized guest bed as my design "bed". If you go to the search at the top of the page, and put int design board, you will see lots of ideas.

I added a picture to my post.

Thank you for the ideas, the masonite is a great start. My husband is a wood worker so this should work. The pictures give me hope.

I have been trying to get my woodworking hubby to make me one for a few years now. grrr! In the meantime, I buy the clearance vinyl-fuzzy backed tablecloths at the local Wal-Mart and thumbtack them to the wall, vinyl side against the wall and they work great. I have 2 of them up now.
Hmmm, beings this is such a cheap alternative maybe that's why I am still waiting for him to make one? LoL! Ah well, works just fine for me and they are portable too, just unpin and roll with everything still on it. |
Welcome to the board from Southern California!!

You could even staple the flannel-backed tablecloths to a piece of plywood instead of tacking them to the wall. I've thought about affixing one to a curtain rod and hanging it on a window - change it out for the window covering that's on there now.
