Hi and welcome from Alaska. My sister-in-law used to live in Glennville--we spent one winter there off and on. I like the area. Pecan trees and Vidalia onions!

Hello from Tucker, in the Atlanta area. I have no idea where Glennville is, but check out my favorite local quilt shop (LQS on here!), Intown Quilters. (www.intownquilters.com) It is full of bright colors and great fabrics and would be heaven to most 13 year olds. The ladies who work there are wonderful and will happily help you pick out an easy pattern and the fabric to go with it.

Hi and welcome from near Athens, GA. Yes, there's lots of help here and a lot of folks to ask questions of. But where do you really start if you want to make your first quilt? First decide on a design/block. You can look at the tutorial section of this board for ideas. Nine patch quilts are the best way to start. It is important to establish size and fabric requirements so you buy the right amount of fabric. I agree, that once you determine amount, take granddaughter with you to select fabrics. If you have no place close, there are hundreds of online fabric stores, many of them owned by people on this forum. ASK anything...no one is snooty about this wonderful hobby!!
The first one will forever be a sweet memory for you!
