Mrs. D from Wisconsin

Hello. Mrs. D here from Wisconsin.

I live in a restored Victorian in central Wisconsin. I am a hard working free style long arm quilter and designer of handbags and soft luggage. My other interests are genealogy, and a subset of that hobby is--I'm a old photo detective who buys old photos in antiques stores--looking for photos with names written on the back, and I do research to find their living family members and return the photos to them. My goal is to find and return as many photos as I can, for as long as I can.

A blogger since 2008--my blog has 1000+ photos and description of eight years journey restoring an old Victorian. We learned lots of new skills, and what it means to have good tools and a willingness to give this house a chance, (as the house had been sitting vacant for 30 years when we acquired it). Like the old adage: How do you eat an elephant. A bite at a time. But its worse than that; we feel like we had to lick every surface of this house with our tongues twice.

As a collector and restorer of vintage and antique sewing machines, I belong to a group of restorers. Many of us have hand crank machines in our personal collections, and so we decided to call our group, "The Cranky People".

I sew everyday. I love making queen size quilts; I make about 10 each year. My favorite quilts are simple and scrappy which fits in well here at our old farmhouse. My latest sewing machine arrived a few days ago--a Christmas present from my husband, a 201-2 Singer in a lovely Cherry cabinet that belonged to lady named Helen who passed away a number of years ago. The commission date is February 1951. Oh my, she's beautiful.

I'm looking forward to learning from the fun people here. Thank you for being so friendly.

Welcome Mrs. D! Your interests and activities sound like so much fun - I love to restore anything but to tackle an older Victorian left unkept for 30 years must have been quite the task.. And I'm sure even more rewarding! Please share pics as we all enjoy seeing the results of one another's efforts! I'm sure you'll enjoy the board as there are so many wonderful folks here who graciously share ideas.
