Hi and welcome from Washington state, you will love this site!

Yea, Guam is a haul from anywhere on the east coast.
I'm originally from Peace Dale. About 5 miles down 138 from URI.
There's a few Rhode Islanders on the board.

We're only40 mins from Boston. I've only been quilting for about two years

Hi Jeanne: Welcome...we used to live in RI...North Kingston and Wickford when XH was in the Navy. You'll learn lots from everyone on the board. So many talented quilters. Welcome !

Blue Bell 01-28-2009 03:57 PM

Jeanne,
Yes, I do go to the Sewing Room and live about 5 miles from there. Did you make the pink/peach quilt there? Do you take lessons there?
Blue Bell

Feathers 01-28-2009 03:59 PM

Teri: I think I use to go right by Peace Dale on my way to work in Westerly. Just now realized you are from RI.

Jeanne Holmes 01-31-2009 06:11 PM

Hi Feathers

Thanks for the welcome. You lived in some really nice areas in RI.

Jeanne

Jeanne Holmes 01-31-2009 06:14 PM

Hi Bluebell

Do you mean the one with the "scallops"? Yes my friend and I are making it now. Yes I do take lessons from Leslie and now I'm making the Jenny Haskins quilt "Summerwine". I just started it. What are you making?

Feathers, I lived off of 138. Really nice and wooded area but now is being built up. Just a shame that the families are selling off the land so people can build cul-de-sacs and such. Just a shame..........

hi Jeanne from Florida! lol, sounds like hy-giene...don't mind me, sometimes I live up to my 'nick'. This board brings that out in me. You will love it here.

...not to say you'll be crazy after being here a while, lol. You'll just have lots of fun. From your quilts, looks like you are already having a blast. Just love all three, but the peach is an heirloom...drip, drip, drip...oops, that's my mouth hanging open.

Jeanne Holmes 02-02-2009 09:29 AM

Hi Quiltncrazy

You make me chuckle. Thanks for writing and the compliment. I just wish we had some of your sunshine up here. It's been a really cold winter!

Jeanne

Mousie 02-02-2009 03:49 PM

Jeanne if i could, I would bottle up some of our sunny days and go to my stash and tie colorful ribbons and send out to everybody that is so coooold! Of course, in return, during the summer you guys could send me some cooler temps and less humidity...win-win. if only, lol!

Jeanne Holmes 02-03-2009 06:24 AM

Quiltncrazy

We make the best of the cold days, we have an excuse to stay in and quilt all day! It must be the same for those hot & humid days you guys have.
Do you always add ribbons and bows to your letters? It makes me smile and think you must be a colorful, creative person. Do you have any pictures of your work? I'd love to see them.

well, actually I meant, lol, I'd 'bottle' the sunshine and tie ribbons on those, but enjoyed reading the way you see me. I do think of myself as colorful, just bc I love so many different things, and I try to be creative. I have tons of sewing over the years, but just started quilting. I'd never been exposed to it. I live in Florida, and ppl here do quilt, but not as much I imagine. That's why I came to this board, to talk to ppl who understand sewing, quilting etc. etc. etc. I have chronic health disorders so look for the "rainbows" anywhere they are to be found. I hope occasionally I bring them with me. :D

Jeanne Holmes 02-03-2009 01:27 PM

Hi quiltncrazy

It's funny you should say you just began quilting because I've sewed for many years also and just started to quilt. I knew I would become obsessed with it, and so I have. I do take quilting lessons from a wonderful lady in RI who has a sewing shop. We are working with embroidered quilts with her and then I have a dear friend who comes to my house to sew once or twice a week. We are working on the same quilt right now and will work on separate ones when they are finished.

Today it started snowing this morning and it's supposed to snow all night. Luckily I only work part time and I don't have to go out tomorrow. Take care and let me know about your projects.

I would have loved to take a class, but health does not permit me to "schedule" anything, so whatever I know, besides tons I have already learned right here on this board, I have taught myself. Mostly by trial and error after reading lots of books and magazines. I take them with me everywhere.
I can't possibly do all that interests me, but we have a post on here called "whats next?" and one called "what's next in pictures". Both were started by a wonderful lady named Melissa, or Jim'sGem. We are all motivating each other to finish ufo's, start that "idea" that you have been saving, or whatever each person's personal goals are for 2009.
I have made no 'certain' predictions bc of the unpredictablility of my life, but hope to at least finish as many ufo's as i can and just keep producing something that makes ppl around me happy and keeps my mind off discomfort. thats hard. right now, I have been helping my daughter and her hubby a lot, bc she is in hospital. probably getting out tomorrow. I try to post on what's next at least once a week. It helps me a lot. Right now, no pics from me, cause camera is broke, but as soon as I can remedy that and learn how to post them, I would love to join in with that too. off to post on what's next. really nice talking to you.

Deara 02-03-2009 02:10 PM

I love your name. Jeanne is my mother's middle name (French pronunciation). And my granddaughter's middle name is Jenee'.

Jeanne Holmes 02-10-2009 06:04 AM

Hi Gail

There's a little story in how I got my name. My mother wanted to name me Jean, but the church wouldn't allow her to use the name. Being French she came up with the name Jeanne Marie, and I like that better!

Thanks for writing
Jeanne

GailG 02-10-2009 06:13 AM

Jeanne Marie. Beautiful name. That's probably how I received my middle name -- Marie. Also, I was born on one of Mary's feast days.

Mousie 02-10-2009 06:38 AM

Marie is a beautiful name. My dearly departed MIL was a marie, but she went by Louise. She got 2 or three granddaughters named after her, including one of mine, got it for her middle name.
Jeanne you must have one of the longest welcoming posts on here, aren't you special. Think ppl have a sense. Not that everybody on here, isn't just as welcome. We are a friendly bunch. After this, no way you are a newcomer, though. :D
