It's so great to see so many new ones joining the forum. What a great group of people. I am a recent widow in my 60's. Started quilting when retired and took to it like a duck to water. I think you either love it or don't care much for it. There are no fence sitters in the quilting world. I've asked ten different ladies to join the quilt class I was in and eight of them are crazy about quilting and two have fell by the wayside. One of them had a very crowded area to work in and the other moved out of the area to a very HOT place not conducive to warm quilts! What projects do people sew in HOT climates? Has anyone ever heard of a "summer" quiltl?

Welcome to the board from the CA desert. We live in a climate where 120 plus is not unusual in summer. We have a large family, lots of kids and grandchildren, so I make lots of quilts. Most of our family live in cold winter areas and want more of them. We do get cold here at night in the winter and use my quilts.

You can make summer quilts for sure :D Either no batting, or a light weight flannel would work. I am making one for DD without any batting, as she is a furnace year round LOL

Hi and welcome from the Inland Empire. I gave a "cuddle" quilt to my MIL in Fresno and it gets REALLY hot there! She didn't appreciate it at first, but when winter came, she loved it. You know that it usually cools off at night in the summer. Also, air conditioning calls for something warm to put over your legs sometimes.

BTW, a "cuddle" quilt is cotton on one side and fleece as the backing and batting in one. It is light yet warm.

Hello and welcome from SW Iowa. Glad to have you here. I piece quilts in the hot summer and quilt them in the cold winter. I am making a summer quilt for my son. Just a pieced top, backing and a thin blanket for batting.
