Hi Everyone!

I'm Sylvia and I live in Virginia and just joined the forum today. I'm not married, but do have a wonderful BF of 17 years (we don't want to rush into anything :-) and besides if it ain't broke.....)

I've been quilting for about 5-6 years after participating in an international block swap in another group forum and I've been hooked ever since. I enjoy heirloom embroidery and really enjoy combining the two. In addition to quilting and embrodiery, I do crochet, hardanger, and even some cross-stitch. I'm always trying new mediums of stitching, but always come back to the basics!

My job was "eliminated" back in November and a few weeks later, the company I had worked for for over 30 years declared bankruptcy. I've had a rough few months, even though I was fortunate enough to get a contract job in January doing the same job for the same company as they wind down and I'm still looking for a permanent job as the contract will be over by April 15 (unless I can convince them, again, they need to extend it).

I didn't want to look at any of my projects and didn't even want to pick them up. Finally, late last month I pretty much forced myself to pick up one of my projects (with a friend's nagging) and started working on them again. Now I'm anxious to get these projects finished and on to the next! I'm also trying to get things cleaned up in the house that I kinda let slide, but I'm almost there! And now that the weather is slowly warming up, there's work to be done outside as well.

I'm working on a snowman quilt which was a Christmas present for my sister in 2007. I just have some hand quilting to do on it and have to attach the binding and it'll be done. I'm also working on a baby quilt for a friend's baby that was born in September. Again, just have to do the hand quilting to finish it up. And there are several projects stacked up after these! So I have my work cut out for me (no pun intended! :D )

Welcome from NE CA. Glad you joined us. We love pictures. Sorry your job was eliminated, but hopefully you'll get a great new job!! I do understand your lack of get up and go with your crafts, being down pulls everything down. Glad you're now up.

Hi Sylvia--welcome to the board from GA. Glad to have you with us.

I lived in VA before I moved to GA three years ago. Where in VA are you?

Next question--do you have a dachshund? Nosy, aren't I?

Machel 03-24-2009 04:58 PM

Hello and welcome from VA. What part of VA are you from?

Mplsgirl 03-24-2009 05:03 PM

Welcome from Roscoe, IL! I was laid off 1/31 and I understand. I don't know how old you are, but I think I have officially retired. Good to have you here, and you will meet so many wonderful people!

Thank you all for the warm welcome and support.

For those that asked where I live in VA, I'm in Richmond.

Marcia, to answer your question about if I have dachsy, not at this time. Our last one passed away several years ago, but recently we've been talking about getting another one (or two, or three!).

Welcome, Sylvia, from St. Louis! This is a great place to get you fired up to finish things that have been lingering.
The economy is not user friendly right now. Praying that things brighten up along with the Spring.
I need to light a fire under myself to do the clean up stuff, and finish things! I just keep finding new things I want to do!

Hi from NE Illinois...I'm also all to familar with company bankruptcies and having to spend your last days working (after 31 years) packing up the plant and shipping it to Mexico...I'll stay retired. Let's hope for better times to come!

:P

Hi, My name is Bernice and I live in Spruce Grove, Alberta and I love to quilt. I like to learn new techniques and hear new ideas from other quilting ladies. I belong to a County Quilters of Stony Plain, Alberta and it is a great place. :)
I am older and I can't believe I didn't get into quilting sooner.
I like to golf in the summer. I would be happy to hear from any quilter and I look forward to all the great ideas that quilting ladies accidently or intentionally discover.
