GAGIRL 06-05-2008 05:58 AM

Hi everyone! http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/greet024.gifI am new to quilting and have lurked around on this board for quite a while now and finally decided to join. :-)

Just a little bit about me: I am 26 and from a very small town in GA. I'm not married. I have 2 horses,2 goats,2 cows,2 dogs,2 cats & 4 chickens (probably why i'm not married) My friends make fun & call me Noah because of my animals. oh and I like to barrel race.

I made my 1st quilt last year as a Christmas gift for my mom. It has pictures of me & my little sis growing up on it. I didnt think i was ever going to get that thing done, i had never even used a sewing machine before & on top of that it was a queen size quilt! After that I took a quilting class where we made a lucky star sample quilt and since then i have made two twin size lucky star quilts that i would like to give to the boys home where i volunteer.

ok. For some reason I am long winded today so i'll hush before I write a novel

Hello GAGIRL from the island of Newfoundland, Canada

Wow what beautiful work you do!!!

I do have to ask, as it is something I haven't heard of before.... what is barrel racing???

Cheers!!

Bevanger 06-06-2008 05:34 AM

Welcome from WA State. You'll love everyone here

GAGIRL 06-06-2008 07:06 AM

Quilting Aggi ~ Barrel racing is a speed event in Rodeo. You go around three barrels in a coverleaf pattern and try to get the fastest time. It sounds boring but it is the best adrenaline rush in the world!! :D

I also like pole bending and its another Rodeo speed event basicly weaving in and out of poles and you try to get the fastest time

Here is a link if you want to take a look

WOW! GAGirl you are really, really talented. Your quilts are gorgeous and they look perfect. People quilt for years and don't get as good a quality as these quilts appear to be. GOOD JOB!

Lois-nounoe 06-16-2008 05:58 PM

Hey GaGirl! Beautiful quilts! For a beginer you sure got the knack! I also was a "can chaser" and a pole bender! Only local shows but did very well on my little arab stud, Ralde. Did all the classes actually but it's hard to win some when you can't afford the best attire. Use to teach kids to ride on my arab but when the barrels or poles were up I would tell them NOT to face them! Little horse loved the events so much that he would go on auto pilot and they had better hang on! He also loved the key hole and after I messed up by turning him to soon and hitting the line I let him do his own thing. Another hint: NEVER NEVER wax your saddle before you do the Key Hole!! Almost got left hanging onto the horses tail on the trip "home"! Little horse is gone now and hubby and I don't ride anymore cause old bones don't heal so well but we have 9 (5 ponies and 4 horses) that we just love to death. So keep on "chasing those cans"!! It is great fun win or not!!
