**Don't know what I was thinking...maybe I wasn't. Maybe it was a new board platform to me. Best excuse I can come up with. I wrongly made an intro post in another person's intro post. How rude am I? Copy n paste below. If moderator cares, please delete my post on PanFlute's "Pleasantly surprised in Missouri" intro thread.** Brand new old guy here. Seems every time I made a Google inquiry about my newest obsession, the QuiltingBoard came up with lots of good info. So being the smart gent I am, I signed up! New to sewing here, I must confess. I was way too busy with my previous 45 year career to do much anything else. Retired now and suddenly I have oodles of time to fill. Mine is a strange path to vintage sewing machines and sewing. First started out with a desire to learn some hand-stitching techniques for an old car project and motorcycle seats, etc. Then I was on to hunting for a machine to help out with other panels. First machine and it was all over! I currently have 4 sitting in my office in various states of undress and ,at the moment, 2 more on the way. I keep telling myself "Let's stop and finish what we got first" (I talk to myself a lot since retiring) but every time there's another popping up that just absolutely looks like it needs to come live with me. I have discovered how satisfying it is to take an old, tired machine and bring it back to life. And the real beauty of it is that they still work fine and probably as well as the day they were born. My first post here...I better stop. I could go on but I'll just sit here and talk to myself for a while as I peruse the QB's great info. |
Welcome from South Louisiana. I only have 3 older machines and my husband is thankful. He gets to work on everything we get.

You are no dummy! You may want to check out VictorianSweatshop.com, it sounds like it would be right up your alley. The people who started it and are regular contributors were once regulars on Quiltingboard.com. I do so miss checking out the QB first thing each AM and reading their posts. Joe Miller, Steve H., Macybaby, Cary in Oly, Rodney, Archaic Arcane, Miriam, and the guy who had a shop where he worked on motorcycles right alongside his wife who quilted, think he was KC in OK. When they disappeared from this forum, I felt like they had all graduated and I had been kept back. Some of them still post on here.

@Jane Quilter...I just posted a pair of pics in another thread of one of 'em...but shield your eyes if you are of the "do not molest the finish of a vintage machine" crowd. I will get some pics of the others. :thumbup:
@Monika...no, not yet. Hey...but I have made me a new hat band for my Panama! :shock: Seriously though, I am gathering info here and I'll make the ugliest quilt ever one of these weeks. @Barb in Louisiana...your hubs is probably just acting like it's work. It's really highly enjoyable. He's just trying to get points. |

Welcome Kik, you seem to remind me of my Uncle. Though he never sewn anything, he did love to venture into different things, master them, and then move on. He had so many talents, and still does. His newest is baking breads. I too have one of those minds that talks to itself, answers itself, and sometimes seems to non stop thinking "what if" I know there are several people on this board, under the vintage machine group which I'm sure you've already spotted, that can share all there experiences and stories too. Have fun in your new endeavors
