New here. I have sewing experience, but am new to quilts
Hello everyone. I have sewn for kids and household for years, but being a Mom of 6 I haven't had the time or space to quilt but have always wanted to. The nest is almost empty and I now have more than enough of both. My machine is from my Gramma who quilted (an old Singer 401a) and I have a beautiful hand stitched quilt done by my great Gramma in the late 1800s she didn't use a machine for anything. I have always been a bit intimidated but I am going for it. In doing research I have been routed to this site A LOT so here I am looking forward to the adventure.

Welcome from Australia. You will become addicted to this board but like the rest of us you won't mind. Ask anything as no question is stupid, just an unknown answer. Happy Quilting.

New to the board and quilting myself but I've been watching this board for a couple of months. The people here are so friendly and helpful. I've never seen a rude remark to or about anyone! Don't be shy. For every question on here you will get at least a half dozen answers!

I have noticed how nice everyone is too in my wandering around the site. I live in a very small ethnic town and don't know anyone who even sews so it will be nice to have a place to go for all the little questions. Thanks for all the welcomes.

Welcome from SC Texas. Happy you joined us and hope you jump into making a quilt soon. I still sew and quilt on my 401A I bought new in 1958. I have a newer Brother with quilting tools, but still love the Singer the best.

Hi, welcome from NE Ohio.
|
My Gramma bought this 401A in 1956 and gave it to my Mom. The only other machines I have used are the ones in home ec class. I thought about one of the new fancy ones for a bit but mine has done everything I have asked it to do all these years and I know how to fix and maintain it so I'm sticking with it. I really love everything but the color, in all fairness though it is a better color than the 40 year old olive hand mixer that I still have. I am looking forward to getting started

Hi from Connecticut!I did fashion sewing - kids clothes, christening gowns, heirloom sewing and toys before I started quilting. I used to belong to the Threads magazine forum but they did not have much on quilting and someone referred me here. Its a great board! I learned a LOT about quilting tips and tricks in the first 6 months I was on and think my quilting improved pretty dramatically. Its addictive! (Especially the fabrics....)

Good morning and welcome to the board from Hot Hot Arizona!

How neat you have your gramma's vintage machine, there is a section on the board just for vintage machines and you'll gain so much help and knowledge here at QB. I'm sure you treasure your gramma's hand pieced and stitched quilt. You can find tutorials here to help and youtube.com has many videos on all types of quilting.

Welcome aboard the QB. You will find everyone sew helpful. And you have a Singer 401a also and awesome. Check out the Vintage Sewing Machine Forum, lot of the members have Singer 401s. I don't (yet), but am looking.
