New here with question ☺
Hi. I am new to this board. My name is Sue and I love all things sewing. 😊 I am doing research on the best methods of securing fabric on bolts for a fabric store. Securing cotton fabric is not an issue. I am more concerned about methods of securing knits such as fleece and speciality fabrics such as poly satin, organza, tulle, etc. I have 4 options; clipping, straight pins, safety pinning, or tucking. I appreciate input as to what method works best for which fabrics. As a side note, I have a question; do you think using safety pins on fleece leave holes? I have used them before and have not had a problem but would greatly appreciate any input. Thanks. ☺

As for your question, if you don't want to stick pins in the fabric, you could always wrap a big rubber band or two around the bolts to hold the fabric in place. |
Welcome from Louisiana. I've seen fabric stores use the large flat clips that just slip on the edges of the fabric and the fold and tuck method. Sometimes, as in velvet, the fabric kind of sticks together, so you don't have to do either.

Welcome from Texas! This would probably be best and since the purchase would be for a fabric store they maybe able to receive a discount by purchasing in bulk. I have seen this in a local quilt shop I patronize often. They do use this mostly on their more "slippery" fabric.

I don't know answer, BUT, I hate the use of straight pins. Hobby Lobby does this and I have gotten "stuck" many times. Told the ladies they need another method, but didn't help. Still go there though.
