Hi! I'm new to the board and to quilting, so I'll be lurking around, trying to absorb everything I can.

I don't know much about sewing, and much less about quilting, but I recently had a baby and would love to make a quilt from his clothes. That, of course, means learning to sew and quilt, as well as lots and lots of practice before starting on the baby clothes quilt. My husband, in support of my interest, bought me a Singer sewing machine. (Sure, he's getting ahead of me, but he's optimistic! )

Anyway, my name is Jaime, I live on a horse farm in KY and I want to learn to quilt!

Thanks for taking the time to read this, I look forward to chatting with you and learning from you!

No better way to learn than to jump right in - rejects can be used as potholders if nothing else. There are all levels of quilters here, from newbies to artists that take your breath away with their work. If you use the search function on the top of page (second blue line) you can find several threads on beginner quilts.

There are instructions for a tablerunner with pictures, that was a super-easy project. The chat room has people in most evenings, although it is notorious for bumping some of us off.

I'm looking forward to seeing your progress!

Thanks for the welcome!

That's a good idea for the rejects...I can always use pot holders!

Welcome, Jaime.
Once you start quilting, you won't want to stop. This is a great place to get encouragement and have your questions answered.

welcome to you both, be watching for an announcement from Patrice for a chat "class" on March 2. It's an easy enough for beginners pattern I believe. You can check out the thread about the double wedding ring class to get an idea of how informative it is not to mention fun.

I have a feeling the quilt made from his clothes will end up being more for me than him! It'll be something I can snuggle long after he outgrows the snuggling stage.

Welcome! Hey, if an uncoordinated guy like I can learn, so can you. It's only taken me a half-year to come up with about a half dozen pieces. That's learning to sew and quilting by hand. Then too I didn't have a baby to attend and that's a big, no, huge consideration. I can't think of a more relaxing hobby once you get into it, just take it one step at a time. The folks here are great for advice and guidance.

Congratulations, a boy or girl?

My baby's a boy, who's not so little anymore. He's 6 months and has more than doubled his birth weight already. But he's my pride and joy! His name is Donovan.

My husband is really great about helping out with the baby, when he's home, so I have to time play with the horses, the dogs, and do whatever else I want for the "me" time I need.

Like last night, I wanted to sew together a fleece throw blanket. (Nothing major, just sewing the front design side to the back.) The hubby took the baby and played with him while I did it. Didn't even have to ask!
