New and looking for Quilting Friends

Hello! I'm Shannon and I live in Maryland. I'm married with two grown children and a Xolo (Mexican Hairless) dog. I have quilted on and off (mostly off) for about 28 years. I'm going through a lot of back problems and family issues and quilting is helping me through. I enjoy applique quilts because of the handwork, it's very relaxing. I just took a break from my part time job (I was a homemaker for about 20 years and started working about three years ago) because of back problems. I'm hoping to find some quilting friends here online, being at home can get a bit lonely.

The family issues I referred to are my 20 year old daughter left our home unexpectedly in December. We disagreed with some of her life choices and she has cut us out of her life. The reason I'm sharing this here is that one of the comforts I have is that I made her a quilt years ago and had it longarm quilted. We picked out the designs and threads together and one of the designs was "I love You" was quilted into the border. When she came back to get some of her stuff I gave her that quilt. My hope and prayer is that she is using it and one day will realize how much we do love her and restore the relationship with us.

I'm an introvert so it's hard for me to make new friends, but I'm hoping to find some here. I hope you all have a wonderful day! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png

Hi Shannon, and welcome from sunny Southern California! You'll find many friends here, inspiring and generous. Sewing and quilting have gotten me through many hard times. It's great therapy because it takes you away from problems, giving you something fun and exciting to think about. Probably your daughter just needs time to mature and realize your value.

Welcome from Texas. This is a great board & you will quickly make friends here. We are here for help, encouragement & friendship. Quilting is a great stress reliever & it's my "go to" place when I need to free myself from life's worries. Praying that you & your daughter will find healing & restoration.

Hello from West Virginia. Sorry about your problems with your daughter. But I'm glad you found this board. Quilters make great friends. I've been doing more hand stitching lately, too. I love the simplicity and the quietness of hand stitching.

Hi Sharon and welcome to the board from the deep woods of New England!! We spent 30 plus years in northern VA and in retirement escaped the beltway madness for the serenity of the woods lol. You have found a treasure trove of quilty friends here (imho). While we love to think of 20 year olds as adults they still have a lot of growing up to do. Hopefully she will come around. Also, that she took the quilt with her indicates to me that somewhere in the deep recesses of her heart she knows. Long distance hugs and again Welcome!!

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. Time mends a lot of relationships and I hope quilting soothes your pain.

Hello Shannon, I'm glad you found us here. I'm sorry to hear of problems in your family, unfortunately I can understand and sympathize with many of those sorts of issues..,

I'm happy to be working on a family project, for my hubby's aunt who is a great lady and a fan of University of Michigan. I grew up without much sports rivalry myself, but goodness, those rabid Michigan Wolverines back home for the hubby and the Seahawk fans here give new meanings to what a fan is :)

I better stop slacking and start sewing!
