hi, i am a self taught NEW quilter. can you believe i am doing this in a 33 ft fifth wheel! and the first thing i did was make 4 queen size tops! tops only the sandwiching and quilting is slowly coming to fruit.
what a learning experience, i wasted my time using wal-mart fabric only to find out i can't get what i need everywhere.
tried machine quilting on my Janome Memory Craft 4900 and found out it's tough to do.
my husband and i are retired and traveling around the country so i never have time to stop and take a class anywhere :( this would probably help a lot
i pick up a lot of books at the library and use the web.
are there any other 62 year old newbies out there?

Hello & Welcome :-D

Welcome! The traveling sounds fun! I am sure you can find help at a quilt store along the way. And... if they seem disinterested in helping you, just keep on driving till you hit the next store! OR, just come to the board, because you will find help on everything here! Hope you enjoy it! Peggy in Nebraska

hi, Ebony, and welcome to the QB! Glad you're here! Quilting on the road sounds like it would be a challenge, indeed, but also sounds like you've figured out how to make it work!

Peggy, thanks. I have already come across some quilt shops that made me feel like I was not welcome and others where I received a lot of help. There is a little place in Westport, WA. that went out of their way to help me with fabric and color selections.

Welcome to the board from Southern California!

Hello, and welcome from Missouri! I wonder how many of the unhelpful quilt shops will still be open the next time you are in that area!

I am also basically self taught. Can't imagine making such large quilts while travelling down the road. Did you have sewing experience before quilting.
