New from Suffolk, VA

Hello everyone,

I discovered this website about a week ago and am totally enthralled. I started quilting in 1994 and then got away from it for many years. I rediscovered my hobby about two years ago and have gone all in. My husband gave me the third floor of our condo for my sewing space which now includes not only my Bernina 1090 that I have had for about 18 years but my new Gammill Vision 22-10 as well. I did not like wrangling quilts on my Bernina and I was tired of giving my quilts to other longarmers....so now I do my own! I also own a 1950 Singer 66-18 that I bought for $20 on Craig's list (including the table) and a 1950 Singer 221 - which is just too cute! My husband has done a great job cleaning, re-wiring, oiling etc my $20 Singer. Love it! Love it!

I grew up in Florida and still own a condo down there (Rockledge - central East coast). I'm active duty Navy. Is your son military too?

Welcome to the board from Maryland. Used to live in your area. Did almost all of my doctors and shopping in Suffolk. Have you been to the quilt shop on 10/32 just north of the hospital? They opened right before we had to move. LOVE the area and we really want to head back.

I live in northern Suffolk off of 664 just before the MM bridge tunnel so I typically go to Nancy's Calico Patch in Newport News. I haven't been to a quilt store in Suffolk proper. Which hospital are you referring too?

You are welcome. Have you tried Bella's Fabrics? Its just on the other side of the JRB. It's my favorite shop and they are all so nice. I've bought my last two embroidery machines from them and they have great classes. I also like What's Your Stitch N Stuff in VA Beach off of Kemps River. I wanted to go to the one in Suffolk but they were closed last time I was out that a way.

I will definitely need to try Bella Fabrics! Thanks for the recommendation! I have been to What's Your Stitch N Stuff a couple times but they never seem to have what I'm looking for.

You'll love Bellas. The first time I went in there the lady offered me a cup of coffee and told me to look around. They have toys so my 6yr old DGS who loves to go with me had fun. Normally I have to bribe him with a FQ that he can pick out. Ive been going for a few yrs and I've not met anyone who isn't supper nice and they love to help when they can. There has been a couple of classes that I wanted to go to but had to work one of the days and twice they've rearranged things so that I could go. They first contacted all enrolled in class to make sure it was ok. Cindy F and Susan G are great teachers there. I've taken a few classes from each they have great ways to make thier projects easier. I drive over from Norfolk so you can imagine how great they are for me to do that. We have Fabric Hut right down the road from where I live. I've bought my Ruby and then this weekend traded it for my Diamond Deluxe and they have great support.
