Hi, I have been quilting for about 4 years now. I started by using my son's old jeans and just cut blocks and sewed them together. My DH wanted one, and after making a few with the old jeans, I decided to use cotton fabric. I found a pattern online and followed the directions and had a blast. I was hooked. BUT I didn't know how to quilt the thing. I had been tying the jean ones. A friend invited me to the local guild and I am now a part of it.

Welcome to the QB. You have come to the right place for inspiration and instruction. Just put a question out there, and someone will have the answer for you.

Hello and welcome from an Iowa girl    I, to have made lots of denim jeans. First one for my cousin who lived with us while he was in high school ( DH and I were 26 at the time!). I couldn't tell you the exact number. They are a great way to make a quilt for a guy!

Constance 12-24-2009 12:25 AM

I'm new too, also from Washington state, now living in Las Vegas, NV. But I will always forever be a Washington state girl, both Western and Eastern ;-) I have SO many roots in both areas. Welcome to you like I have been welcomed so far, this is fabulous. Connie

Walla Walla! My home town! I now live in the Seattle area. Welcome!

Justok 12-24-2009 07:15 AM

Welcome from Montana. I think a lot of quilters start by using our cut up clothes. I still have my first quilt using cut up shirts, dresses and blouses.

Wine Woman 12-24-2009 07:22 AM

Welcome from Oregon. You live in a wonderful place with good wine! Depending what your quilt block is try stitch in then ditch for a first quilting adventure. It's easy and you can watch your backing to make sure it doesn't pucker. Have fun with it. We all like pictures too!

Hey Spokane, what lake is that, Newman? I had my FIRST honeymoon there, and I LOVE Spokane and the Spokane Valley, and Newman Lake, Liberty Lake too. I AM very fond of a lot of E. Washington, much history in Grandview and Prosser both, and also Spokane, and a grandson born there in 1998. Also grandparents both buried by the old church on the hillside where there is a cemetary right beside it on the way out to Newman Lake, can't remember the name of it, escapes me. Anyway, I'm not sure you were welcoming me, but I am a newbe and my home state is Washington, both Eastern (favorite in MANY ways) and Western for more modern ways, two of my three children were born in Renton at Valley General Hospital, during the time we lived in Maple Valley. MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU.
Connie

Hello Constance

The Lake is Roosevelt (the Columbia River) and it is near Brewster. It is the furthest the Salmon can get up the river before the Chief Joseph dam which is the one before Grand Coulee.

I know the cemetery you mean. I think the name is St Joseph's. It is beautiful out that way. Well actually the whole area is beauiful.

HAPPY NEW YEAR and thanks for the note.

That's usually how nicknames start. Our little town is known for it's people's nicknames. First of all we're Cajun French. We are known to put T (short for petite {or little} in French) before male names. Such as T-boy, T-Jim, T-man, and the list goes on. When my baby brother was born, my baby sister was only 17 months old. My mother would tell her,"Say 'how-do, Little Boy." Baby Sister would say, "Ha do, B-Boy." You've got it. Today he is known as B-Boy. Some people don't know his real name. And then (I don't mean to be so lengthy with my story...) when the first grandkids were born, my dad wanted to be called Grumpy (kind of a twist for the French version of Gran-pa). Well, little Darren couldn't say Grumpy. He would say, "Gonky." Yep, my dad carried his name to the grave. When Father blessed his grave on All Saints' Day, he finished with, "Rest in peace, Gonky."

OOPS! Sorry. I've put my story in the middle of everything. And I don't know how to correct it, except to delete. So I'm sure you can find it. Right? Sorry Connie.

I like the Connie Beth a whole lot, I have never been called Constanza Mahria since grandma died, but prior to that I sure was. English is Constance Marie. My dad and his identical twin both called me just Con or Con Con....my friends called me Con a lot too. One called me Conzie all the time. So when I sell books on half.com I use Conz Book Cellar.

Please don't be sorry, I think you're just fine ;-). I don't sweat the small stuff, I think once you reach 63 or thereabouts it truly doesn't mean a thing right? I like to hear the origins of nicknames, I was an English teacher ;-). And Connie Beth---- that is so cute, it really makes Connie better, I like it. My grandmother told me the name Contance means Constant or Consistent, or perservering, staying put, staying with something or someone, etc. etc., and it was also quite Victorian....so I can see the Catholic and the Victorian in the name. What is so comical to me is I am comedic ALL the time without trying, and I'm a writer too, so I do not want to blow my own horn EVER, it's automatic and play on words is also automatic.....and constant so that part fits. I guess what I am saying is I am anything BUT Victorian, as in proper, I fall down too much and stumble too much, drop things too much, etc., as in I really do try to be lady like but it doesn't always come out that way, so it becomes comedic without trying. It's like watching a movie where you know they accidentially ad-lib and then giggled about it. The old movies I mean, the "good" ones? I think I've said enough for the moment.
