New from WV

Hi, this is backwards because I posted to a thread before introducing myself!! I am sorta new to machine quilting. Back when Robbie Fanning wrote a book called, I think, Machine Quilting, I attempted to make a log cabin wall hanging. I had been sewing for a good while and since i hate hand sewing, I thought I would give it a try. I mean really....how hard could it be? Well needless to say, it took me this long to attempt it again!! That was before rotary blades, etc and what you did was trace around a template and then match up the drawn lines with pins etc. Anyway, that was it for me. With that method it would have been easier to hand piece it, I think....:o So thanks for letting me join! I have learned quite alot reading these forums!

Have you checked out Leah Day's web site. She does free classes; right now she's doing a FMQ quilt along with a new thing each week. Her site has a wealth of information and she does it all on a domestic machine. It might help.

By the way; I was born and raised in WV. My sister lives in Buchannan, my granddaughter and great grandaughter live in Fairmont and I also have family that live in Kingwood/Rowlesburg area. We're all over up there. I go back a couple of time a year and go to the quilt shop in Buchannon and Elkins while I'm there. There are a lot of hillbilly gals on here. Some don't live there now but once a hillbilly always a hillbilly.

A BIG hello and a warm welcome from southeastern WV....glad you're here. I've been away for a few months but am glad to be back myself. I'm a new (first-time) grandmother and between baby-sitting him and checking on my elderly parents who live 2+hours away I just haven't had time to sew let alone check the board recently.

I too am kind of new to machine quilting. I've been a hand-quilter for 30+ years (since my first quilting class in 1976)...but started following Leah Day's free motion quilting blog as well as the project for SewCalGal....both are great and very informative. I've learned so much....mostly...practice...practice....practice.

Welcome....
Blessings.....kathymarie
