Happy Thanksgiving to all .... I just joined today and have a question, please .... what machine is the most user friendly for learning free motion thread painting ??? I"m considering the Janome 6500P just from reviews on Costco ... am I looking at the best machine ???? I have a Husqvarna Viking Emerald 118 with a generic Jerry Rigged free motion foot which involves turning the machine upside down to install it .... very frustrating....Look forward to learning from all of you and thank you for accepting me to your forum .... Welcome from Ontario, Canada. Any good machine is capable of threadpainting. A machine you have to turn upside down to install your foot is certainly not convenient. Are you planning to thread paint on one layer of cotton fabric or thread paint as quilting? Regular cotton fabric needs to stabilized in some way to get a nice end product when thread painting. Some put the fabric in a hoop, others put a stabilizer under the fabric.

Greetings from Seattle. Sorry I can't help you with this question, I've been using vintage machines older than I am (58) for my last 20 years or so of quilting and while I really love what others do with thread painting, it is not one of my pursuits. I was just recently given a modern era machine and hopefully will be learning new techniques but am currently feeling like an old dog...
Best wishes and we love to see pictures here, I keep getting more and more ideas for future projects by seeing what the fine folks on the board are doing! |
I've never had an inclination to try thread painting. It's usually pretty, but not what I am interested in. And welcome from the beautiful mountains of western NC.
