newbie and a ? about foundation paper piecing

hi,

I hope this works..........................I 'm attempting foundation piecing, again

and, just wondered if anyone has tried to use muslin instead of paper,

if so, how did you get the pattern printed on the muslin.

in the past, I've drawn out the design (all straight lines) on each piece of muslin.

I have used fabric instead of paper. I traced the design on the fabric. One word of caution, sharpies that are supposedly permanent will run if you use them on the foundation fabric and use any water to spritz and press. I ended up having to redo a who section because of that.

I traced mine from the pattern on to the fabric.

I would use the thinnest muslin or cotton I could find unless I wanted a really heavy quilt.. You can iron fabric to freezer paper and it will print in an ink jet printer. You'll have to hand feed it to the printer one page at a time.

Its not hard to trace the foundation pattern on to fabric accurately. You just need a window and some tape. It sometimes is more accurate than using a printer because printers can resize things on their own. Its not really a "bunch of hand drawn images". It's an accurate copy of the original.

Foundation Paper Piecing
English Paper Piecing
String Piecing

All use some form of paper or foundation. But each are very different in how they use it.
