Newbie from Bama
Hi all! Just found this site and let me say what an awesome site and forum boards this is. I have spent the morning reading through several sections of this board. I have really enjoyed seeing all the quilt pics. Yall are some amazing quilters. Today is the day that I get started on my first quilt. I have my first lesson this afternoon and cant wait to get started. I have been wanting to learn to quilt for some years now. I have read alot about quilting and watched alot of video how to's, browsed many fabric shops, and drooled over a many quilts that I have seen. Coming from a long line of sewers in my family I guess its only natural that I pick up the need to sew. I can sew some but just have never attempted quilting. My grandmothers both quilted but unfortunately I lost them both at a young age. My mother and sister were more garment sewers and never took to quilting and unfortunately I lost them both as a teenager. Now in my 40's the quilting bug has hit me hard and I look forward to when I can proudly show off a finished quilt. Thank yall all for posting all your helpful tips and I hope it wont be long before I can post a pic to share with yall!

Thanks everybody. Today was my 2nd day working on my first quilt. One thing is for sure I think the lady teaching me started me off with one of the hardest quilts...lol She said it was an easy one. She calls it a charm quilt. The only easy part is she had all the fabric already cut into 3 inch squares. Whew these are small squares and alot of them. Not gonna let it get me down though. I am about 1/2 way done with my rows. It is fun but time consuming. I think my next quilt I will definately use larger squares!

ok I am gonna try to post a picture of my progress so far. Hope this works. Not exactly sure what I am doing here...lol. I have 25 rows completed so far on my quilt top. I have not sewn them together yet, I just laid them out to see what it was going to look like. Its not perfect but I really think its a fun and charming quilt so far.
