Welcome from hot, hot, central Florida. Seam allowances can really mess up your finished quilt size. If you are 1/8 inch off in your seams and you have 8 blocks, that ends up being 1" bigger or smaller. I recommend that you mark 1/4" on your sewing machine or else buy a 1/4" foot for your machine.
