Hello fellow quilters,
I am from Virginia, and I have been quilting most of my married life. I've been married for 30 years. When I met my husband's grandmothers (both of them), they were both quilters. I loved the colors and different patterns that they chose, and I wanted to learn how to quilt. I knew how to sew from school, and my mother did make quilts, just one pattern all of the time, when ever she quilted. So, I talked with one of his grandmothers, and she told me how to do it. I came home, and just cut out, and made a simple block quilt top. I didn't put any batting in the middle, but I used a flannel backing, and rolled up the quilt on both ends, and quilted it on the sewing machine. I did a good job, but then I kept making more of them, soon I was giving them as gifts to every one I knew. I was using polyester fabric way back then, but now I use cotton fabric, put batting in the middle, and cotton backing. I sew the pieces together on the machine, and then hand quilt the quilts. I even taught some friends at church how to quilt the quilts. Most of them did have quilt tops they had done, but never tried to finish them, They all are doing great now. I am supposed to go to a senior group to teach them how to quilt, soon. I look forward to that, I don't have a car, so I have to depend on other people to take me. So, I go when I can. I look forward to getting to know every one, and have a great day! |

Not sure how to do it, will have to ask my husband to help. I don't have alot of my quilts any more, I have sold them or gave them away. I have some pictures, but not on my camera. Not sure how to get a copy on the internet from a picture. I do have some pictures of ornaments, and quilted totes I have made. I will try to post them. Thanks for writing to me.

I'm not too far from you. Have you been to the Quilting Bee in Chesapeake? There's also A Different Tourch and What's Your Stitch & Stuff - both in Virginia Beach? There's also the Addicted Quilter in Portsmouth. I've never been to that one, but it should be relatively close to you. Myra
