Hi, I'm Mary, and I have been making quilts for many years. I have been using up over 8000 pieces of poly knits squares from an estate sale to make quilts for those in need and for Project Linus. I have about 45 in need of tying now. I just do not have time to quilt them all...
Since I have been recovering from two surgeries this spring and summer, I have had much more time to sew, so ALL of the "poly squares" stash is now quilt tops. HURRAY! I have been embroidering pictures and hand quilting wall hangings for Xmas( about 400hours to do the wall quilt for my daughter--it is done at last!--a Teacher theme for her classroom, reversible to angels), and just started 4 tree skirts for gifts. I have not machine quilted for years, but have several potholders to practice on before quilting the four table runners I have ready. I have one wedding quilt for my son ready for borders, and 14 blocks made so far for another one for my daughter. My grandson's sports theme quilt is ready to tie and bind. I usually have at least 20 projects in progress.... |

I am still recovering, but getting stronger--thanks to all for the welcomes.
I will try to get pictures soon--do not have a digital camera yet, but the pastor does--and we are tying the quilts at the church, so I will ask him to take pics..... We're heading there in a couple of minutes to tie a quilt for a mentally challenged lady who attends our church. She had called a neighbor of mine, who has severe arthritis--and no money for fabric ---asking her to make her a quilt(the neighbor is just finishing one that has taken her a year to complete). I told the neighbor to find out what color she likes, and we will give her one for Xmas. when she went to church on Sunday, the top was laying on the tables awaiting tying. She commented--"oh, what a pretty quilt that will be when it's finished"--won't she be surprised when she gets it as a present? I gave away about 20 last year..... If anyone wants to do a good deed, use some of your stash to make someone really happy with a quilt(like Project Linus)--if you use blankets instead of batting, it greatly reduces the cost, and you can tie them instead of quilting. |
