My grandmother in the 1940's made a quilt for me of little girls in bonnets. I remember the background being yellow. I loved the quilt and her. Now I am trying to find/buy a quilt that resembles the one she made for me or matches what is in my mind's eye. Unfortunately, I don't seem to have inherited any of her sewing skills. So, I don't know where to look or how to go about purchasing the quilt.
This is very important to me and I feel very lucky to have found others who appreciate the sweet beauty of those old quilts. If you can direct me, I would be most thankful. Wendy of NYC |
Probably it was a Sunbonnet Sue. I also had one when I was small.

Could this be Sun Bonnet Sue? She's very popular with kids, and grown up kids too.
There's also an older version, with more old fashioned ladies but still more or less on the SBS form. |
Hello and welcome from central Alabama. I'll bet it was a Sunbonnet Sue quilt. There are several on e-bay, but I didn't see one with yellow.

Yes, I think it is Sun bonnet Sue - when I described it to a quilter at a craft fair, she called it SBS. How do I go about seeing quilts that would be for sale? Thanks so much.

You can commission a quilt to be made, you can also check etsy and ebay.

Thank you for the idea of commissioning a quilt. I know what eBay is, though I have never used it. But what is etsy?
Thanks again. |

Hello - I feel so welcomed by everyone, thank you for your notes and interest. Wendy

I will look into all that quilting demands. I know it is enjoyable but I tend to think that is only for those who know what they are doing. I will keep an open mind! Thanks, Wendy

If you have a good LQS, check about beginning classes. I taught for awhile and I loved it.

I think your idea of a quilting class for me to look into is a great idea. I'm very sentimental, so I have alot of memories and materials I could really enjoy working on. I'm in NYC, so there should be any number of classes I could look into.
I will share my " beginner" experiences (hilarious, I'm sure), Thank you for your encouragement. Wendy |
Welcome from Michigan. Hope you do decide to take a class and learn how to quilt. I think you will find it very enjoyable. :)

Hello and Welcome to the board :D:D:D
You may want to ask about this in the Main section  |
Hello! You all have helped me already! I found 2 sweet
Sun Bonnet Sue quilted blocks that resembled the ones in the quilt my Grandmother made for me so long ago. I plan on having them framed and hang them in my bedroom. I'm investigating quilting classes, too. Let's hope I find a little sewing skill as quickly! Thanks so much. Wendy |
