I am making a Basket Quilt each block different reflecting my favorite things and know machine quilting is only way it will get finished, so am learning free motion.
It seems so strange to sew "sideways" I am also encouraging great grandaughter to learn sewing. |
I can't wait to get my sewing machine back from repair. The drop feed dog hickey wouldn't work. Don't think it had been used in 40 years AND I WD40'd it and hair dryer heated it...lost a linkage, he said??????. Just want him to hurry, cause sewing sideways sounds like a hoot! Enjoy your new adventure.

Hello and Welcome to the board :D:D:D

Hello from Oklahoma. The best advice I have learned about free motion is...let yourself stop. Nobody said we had to quilt at the speed of light. And when you have to think about where to go or what to do with the next stitch..lift your foot OFF of the pedal and stop. I felt like a dumb when that light bulb went off. I'm always in such a hurry and when things don't turn out right...its 90% my lead foot problem. Now I'm going to concentrate on my back looking as neat as the front.

Welcome from Oregon! Baskets are a little tricky! I have done a couple of basket quilts with just a couple of wavey lines across the baskets and SID (stitch in the ditch). The background "filler" can be variable, whatever you choose to do.
