Hi everyone!
My name is Isis and I'm a senior in college. My husband and I live in a teenytiny apartment in the middle of Boston, Massachusetts and since my semester is pretty light, I thought I'd maybe start myself on a project to last me till graduation.
I've always loved sewing - I made a Waldorf doll by hand when I was in 5th grade and took sewing lessons from a lady in my family's parish for 2 or 3 years (6th to 8th or even 9th grade, I think). The first thing I made with her was a little patchwork quilt for my dolls. Then in high school, I got a quilting kit by Klutz and I made two pillows from it (what a great company!). So now I'd like to make a quilt for me and my husband - our bed right now is a twin (!), but once we leave Boston for me to start grad school we'll have a queen. I think I want to stick with a twin size for now, though. We don't have children and won't have any for a while, and we don't have anyone we're close enough to for me to make them a baby blanket.
I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you and getting advice and help in this exciting new project!

Hugs & bunny kisses

Welcome from North Central PA. I'll bet you are sooooo happy to be in your senior year. What is your major? Our daughter had a double in soc and psych. She and her hubby are in New Zealand for her grad work. They love Boston and wouldn't be surprised if they settle there eventually. I went back to college at age 45 and completing first my AD and then BS, and just finished my masters degree in nursing a year ago (late bloomer) so I understand what a relief it is to see graduation in the near future.

Sounds like you have had an interesting in sewing for a long time. Once you start quilting, it is addictive! Great way to relax too (we all know you need that when the semester starts to get hairy!). A twin is good because you can use it for snuggling on the couch when you study or with hubby on "Movie night".

This is a great place to find all kinds of wonderful, knowledgeable and compassionate folks!

Remember, we love pics!

Welcome from North Carolina. You share a twin? OMG, we have a King and that's not big enough..LOL

You to must be built like Twiggy to share a twin bed!! My goodness...we also have a King and it is just perfect. A queen would work, but then I feel like dh is on top of me. You and your dh have to be really in love to sleep that close to each other every night! Welcome to the board. We look forward to seeing some pics of the projects you get done.

When we were visiting our DD and DSIL in New Zealand last year, we took a trip to a volcanic mountain about 2 hours away from Auckland. We stayed at a hostel. There was 1 double bed and 1 bunk and 1 twin...the kids opted to share a twin...my son in law is 6'4". they seemed to be very well rested in the morning....ahhh sweet youth! :-D

Well Isis---welcome to the world of quilting. I'm sure if you want to make a baby quilter badly enough you could find a pregnancy crises close by. They would be thrilled with a donation for a single new mom and baby.

Isisrtd, Hi and Welcome to the Board. I would look at the Pictures on this Board, look at the free pattern sites and purchase a kit for your first quilt. The kits are great, since they are color coordinated and usually you get enough fabric for the top. You can always buy coordinating fabric for the binding and backing. Warm and Natural is a good batting to use.
This Board is like a Wonderful, Big Family. Eiltcoq.
