Altho I have never had any problems with mine (it has polyester batting in it) I make mine with "Warm-Tater". It is specially made by the Warm & Natural company to use in the microwave.

I have had no problems with mine, but will definitely use insul-bright for any future bags.

Please tell me WHY people are using potato bags in the micro.

meant2be 04-23-2011 06:22 PM

My bag caught on fire but I had used it many times. The next time I wanted a baked potato I put it in an oven mitt with the silvery colored fabric on one side and my potato baked just like it did in the bag and no fire.

Oh wow! could someone send me a picture of these potato bags, have never heard of them or seen them. Thanks!

Hi, and welcome from "on the road" in McMinnville, TN. Glad you decided to join us and give some public information. I have some bags, but I haven't had a problem. Don't know what they are made of however, as I purchased them at a LQS.

Before I made mine, I read into all the fire issues and 100% cotton is a must. I decided for myself that I would be extra safe and so I wet the bag, wring it out, and then insert the washed potato. This is almost like steaming it and still comes out just as fluffy. I also only set mine for 2 minutes, flip over, 2 minutes, flip over, until done. No fires yet and I keep a close eye out.

I love the baking bags, but it must be rotating. And I should of first said 100% cotton and it must of been washed before the bags was made. also better if the batting was washed before too. Always use a potatoe setting on the microwave not 5 oe 8 min on full setting. I still have the same one from over 5 yreas ago and it does a most wonderful job on hte baked potatoes. BUT Never leave it unatended.

They are a wonderful product, if all directions are followed.

welcome!

They tell you to rinse your potato and wrap it in a paper towel, this way it is damp and then steams it while it cooks

DO NOT, repeat DO NOT use Insul-Brite in the microwave!!! It isn't made for that and the manufacturer specifically warns against using it! It has metallized mylar coating and may damage your microwave. Insulbrite is used to reflect heat away from surfaces, so you wouldn't want to use that anyway.

DO USE Warm Tater batting, also by the Warm company, for any products used in the microwave. It is an all-cotton batting, with no scrim, made specifically for use in this kind of project.

Thanks for your attention!
