Welcome from the central valley of California.
Muslin has been used for years and years. Look at some of the older quilts, most of the backs were made of muslin. I will admit that today I mostly use well washed sheets, and some of them come in such lovely colors and patterns that you can match almost anything. But muslin is traditional for backing quilts. |
Hi Chloe! Welcome from Las Vegas!
I haven't used muslin, but I do plan to. I understand you should probably pre-wash it. |

I washed it and ironed it , but it still bunched . people tell me that there are lots of different kinds of muslin , mine must have been a low thread count as it stayed all wrinkly

i quilt for other people alot and many of them use wide muslin, bleached and natural; it is a nice fabric to work with- as long as you purchase good quality muslin. like with all fabrics not all are created equal. if it is very thin--yukky--i use it for foundations for (paper piecing)...
myself i use printed or batik backings on my quilts...then i don't have to worry so much about how the back is going to look when quilted; when using muslin or any solid every stitch shows ;) |
