Rag Quilt Patterns Like Christmas Tree?

I just finished my king size rag quilt and shams, boy was it a beast. I'm looking forward to Christmas. I want to make a large lounge size quilt for the back of mom's couch. I love how the Christmas Tree pattern uses different fabrics to form a Christmas tree - but I'm looking for one NOT Christmas themed. I realize that it's just a tree - but it looks like Christmas to me. I have been unsuccessful in finding any other patterns except a cross and several that form the shape of an animal for small children. Suggestions welcome and appreciated.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "the" Christmas Tree pattern but I think any motif/image/quilt block could be adapted to make an attractive throw quilt. This sunflower block, for example, uses a number of different fabrics to make up the sunflower shape - you could just increase the size of the pieces to make a large sunflower quilt. You could also pixellate an image with small pieces like you would a cross-stitch pattern...

I can't say I've done this - I'm just imagining what you could do. :-)

Edit: Okay, I just re-read your post and you were talking about a rag quilt. I don't think the pixellation idea would work but I think you could get the sunflower or another flower idea to work if you piece the brown center as well... Again, I've never made a rag quilt so I'm just in the world of my imagination. :-)

Good luck!

Is there anything here that you can use or adapt to your needs?

I have made this one. Did not use Christmas fabrics, but I might make it again using them.

I had to look up Christmas Tree rag quilt -- ooo, not so much the stuff I do but I like the concept very much. And proper grats for finishing a king sized project! So welcome to the boards, glad you found us.

Taking Gemm's suggestion of Sunflowers I found this, which is also a rag style:

I usually work in more traditional pieced work, one of the places I go to look for settings and borders and other inspiration is the equilter site for free patterns -- those are usually designed for specific lines with panels, etc. which may no longer be in stock. But maybe they can inspire you to something just right for mom without being too Christmas and a reasonable size for a couch quilt.
