Southern Newbie

Hey!
I'm new to quilting but have been sewing most of my life. I'm really interested in free motion quilting, including info on good machines to consider, so I'd love to hear any tips from you experienced quilters. I had no idea there was a quilters board out there so I'm looking forward to being a part of the quilters' world.
Thanks!

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. Most of the major brands are good for FMQ. What is your price range? Machines go from hundreds to thousands of dollars.

Thanks! I'm definitely not looking in the thousands range. Being new, I'd like to start out on the small end so for now I'd be looking in the $500 +/- range.

Hello, welcome from Nevada.

Welcome from NJ. If you have a reputable dealer near you, I would suggest going there and checking out a used higher end machine. Can usually get a pretty good bang for your buck that way. Let your fingers do some walking online first and see which brands/models have the features that you want. When you go shopping, take a sample of YOUR work - both piecing and quilting/sandwich. See how the machines stack up to the type sewing YOU do - not their samples.
