My first quilt was a baby quilt for my first daughter in 1997.
Then an Aunt gave me two quilt tops pieced by my Grandmother and her in 1935.
The first is the English Flower Pot done by my Grandmother and identified by the Nebraska Quilt Museum. Each butterfly in the white squares is different...
The purple one was pieced by hand by my Aunt, then 17 years old. I found the pattern by accident in a quilt calendar a friend gave me years ago.
Finding border and backing fabrics that were in keeping with the tops was not easy...
I bought a kit featured on a quilting magazine cover called "All Squared Up" done in all bright batiks for the in-laws and hand quilted it. I insured it for $650.00 based on some research, so for those of you wondering what to charge, that and up is not unreasonable.
The black and white and purple one is my own simple design to use up a lot of fabrics my Mother had. Just something fast and easy.

Where I received help was in deciding whether to wash this last one to remove the pencil quilting marks. I am still quilting it by hand (my favorite part) and will wash it later. In the meantime we are using it...

Where I am working on improving is in making my quilt stitches even and small. The only thing that helps is practice: the more I quilt, the better they are. If I quit for a few weeks, I regress and sometimes have to undo stitches to satisfy myself. :)

Thanks for the GREAT quilt pictures I've been inspired by...

FYI, I have used the leftover batting to make quilted Christmas tree ornaments and am making a few stuffed animals as gifts for new babies. The cotton is safe and very washable.

Thanks for the nice comments.

I'll send a photo of the finished black, white and purple in a few days...
In the meantime, this is the other one I am hand quilting, made from Scalamandre cotton drapery fabric samples in different colorways. NOT fun to quilt since the weave is tight and the dyes sometimes interfere.
Twin size for that same daughter, now 14, OMG.

And All Squared Up that went to the in-laws in FLA.
