Vintage Singer Sewer
 

Hello everyone! I am an avid collector of vintage singer machines - the older series from the 1950's and 1960's. My favorite is the Singer Touch n Sew 600 series. I have now the Singer Stylist 477 and recently purchased a 15-99 201. I love these machines and feel that sewing on these older machines is truly an art form. We have a lot of vintage fans around here, my 301 is currently next door with the neighbors making masks for their extended family. My own modern (Bernina) and favorite vintage (Remington) machines are both in the shop right now and I'm using an bottom of the line Brother because working beats non-working, but I'm missing my steady solid metal vintage beauty.

I'm glad you have good experience with the series. Some are not so fortunate. I did get some early models. I haven't messed with the 603s but I did get the 626 going with the chain stitch.


I'm confused - Are you saying you have three machines? A 15, a 99 and a 201?

Welcome to the quilting board from Southern Indiana! I have a Singer 201 that I bought when my first child was five....(my first sewing machine!!!) Right now it's in rough shape because I let my stepdaughter use it for a while and she used it for canvass boat covers and failed to oil it. Am going to send it to the 'sewing machine hospital' after the virus scare is past...and hopefully it will be back in service. Can't wait!

Welcome to the QB from SE Michigan! I am glad to see you jumping right in with your love of vintage machines. I have a number of vintage machines and I love all of them. Of course I also have a few older than vintage machines. I try to take each one out of retirement from time to time. I had a Singer Touch & Sew 600 once and gave it to someone needing a sewing machine. It was a nice machine. Machines come and go in my house all the time. I will pick them up at garage sales in the summer and play with them. Many I have kept and many have been given away. I don't think I have sold a single one of them.
