I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, and welcome you to Quilting Board. This message board will be a great way for quilters from all over the world to share experiences and ask questions. As you look around, you will see there are currently two folders in which to post. This folder being the "Introduce Yourself" allows us to share a little about ourselves. This is not expected to be a place to ask questions.

The "Main" area is where we will conduct more dialog. This will be the folder for sharing sites, tips and requests for information. If I catch a question in the introduction folder, it will be moved to the main area. That way it is more likely where you will find an answer to any questions.

That being said, let me tell you something about me. My name is Boo and yes that is what I am called in the real world. I have been quilting for 25 years and am a fabriholic. My home is in Lansing, Michigan, USA where I live with 2 cats, 4 birds and one very zippy long hair chihuahua named Zippy. I do piecework at a LQS where I am paid in fabric. A tough job, but someone has to do these things.

Denise 11-22-2006 07:32 AM

Hi my name is Denise, I'm new to the quilting world and loving it. I live in a tiny town called Tangent, alberta, canada. I have three dogs 2 wish were strays and one I hand raised from birth. I also have a double yellow headed amazon parrot. I started buying quilting books after i watched a quilting show last yr. I read alot about quilting and watch as many shows i can. I took one quilting class and that was a disaster. I had to take some of the blocks apart and redo, they were not lining up and it look terrible. the block has 30 pieces alone in it. They instructor told me not to bother, because she said it could be fixed by squaring it. I sure glad i didn't listen and redid it. The other ladies were not happy because of how the quilts turned out, (they were all crooked). So I'm still learning and teaching all by myself, and of course if i'm not sure about something, I'll go ask at a sewing store or go online and see if someone can help me. I love it and still makes me very nervous to cut material, but it's getting better :? . My husband also just purchased a janome 300E embroidery machine. WOW now i have alot to study about sewing and i must start creating some projects. Only major complaint i have about quilting the days are to short  Happy quilting everyone, Denise.

Nanner, welcome to the quilting boards! I show that you have posted 6 times so far, so fear not, we know you are there and welcome your input. If you will notice the first page is called the Forum Index. Currently there are three catagories; Main, Introduce yourself, and Links and Resources. Maybe this information will help you familarize yourself with the workings of the postings and how to determine if there are any new posts for you to read. Hope that helps. julie 11-26-2006 02:43 PM

hi, I'm Julie. I am new to quilting, although I've been collecting fabric for a few years. I made a sampler wallhanging in a quilt class I took through our local library. Now, I'm hooked. My MIL was an excellent quilter and I developed an interest from her. Sadly, I didn't start til after she died, but I feel like she is watching me and helping. I just wish I could stay home, and quilt all the time, but then I couldn't afford the fabric! Darn! I don't know often I will be able to come online, but it's nice to know you are all out there willing to listen and help.

Pat Baugues 11-28-2006 06:55 AM

Hi, My name is Pat, and I have been quilting since 1991 and I have made queen bed size quilts for all of my 4 sons & wives, and some for my 7 grandchildren, and even 4 for my 4 great grandaughters. I am a quiltaholic !!!! It calms my nerves, and I just love to see how different fabrics come together in a quilt. I am always dreaming about what my next quilt will look like. I do my piecing on the machine, then do my quilting by hand. I still am not fond of machine quilting. If I can help anyone out there about quilting, I will do my best to answer your questions. I am not an expert on every quilting subject, but I do try.
My husband and I have been married 53 yrs. and we are retired and we do not have any pets. We live in a very small town in Indiana, and have lived in the same house for 47 yrs.
We give God all the glory for all good things in our lives.!!!

Sincerely Pat B.

Pat Baugues 11-28-2006 07:01 AM

Wow, Pat! You are a busy lady! I am Nancy, from WI. I work full time as a baker, and bakery manager......am busy also. I have two sons, one of which is serving our country now in Afghanistan. (please keep him in prayer!) That is the reason I started this little hobbie.......to ease my mind! It has helped some! I hope that we can communiocate some. My quilt teacher is 75 and I have gleaned a bountiful amount of info from her! I love to learn, and suck things up like a sponge. God Bless you..and keep on quilting! We younger ones need the influence that only our elders can give! Nancy

Hello Everyone, my name is Kim and I live in the northern suburbs outside of Philadelphia, PA. I took a beginner's quilting class last winter and loved it. So much so that I went crazy buying material for all different kinds of quilts and I haven't picked it up since. I finished the top part of the quilt but I'm not sure how to bind the layers now. This part is intimidating to me so I keep putting it off. I'd like to get over this hurdle so I can continue on and make another one. I live a very busy life right now with working full time and going to school part time. But I should graduate by next summer and hopefully that's when I'll really be able to get into quilting more. I love looking at new patterns and getting idea's and hopefully I'll be as talented as some of you ladies are.

Kim

nanner 11-29-2006 05:36 PM

Hi Kim...I did something similar to you, I took a beginning class in Jan. '06....but my teacher turned out to be a very good friend who really took me nder her wing.........so I have been doing allot of table runners, and even some olders.....I mean, i can use so many quilts. This has given me experience in quilting, not a huge expense ( all of the time), yet it is fun giving out personal gifts. Keep on keeping on....maybe go a little smaller in your projects, IF the quilt thing gets a little over-whelming! It isn't as scary  Nice to meet with you, Kim!! Nancy :D

Laura 12-01-2006 10:31 AM

Hi, I am now making my third quilt having taken classes from adult ed at the local high school. I live in a very small town in DownEast Maine. I am 56 and retired from nursing to move to the coast. I live with my husband and two dogs. Since last January my daughter and 2 year old granddaughter have also lived here. My quilting time has been drastically cut since their move!
I hope to begin doing applique also as I saw some great framed pieces for sale at a local craft show. I live quite a distance from most places so will enjoy all the help I can get online.
Any inspiration you can give me will be appreciated

nanner 12-01-2006 12:25 PM

Laura 12-01-2006 01:26 PM

Hi, We moved down to this area from Lisbon Falls which is right next to Lewiston and I worked at St. Mary's Hospital (now St. Mary's Regional Medical Center) in Lewiston from 1977-1996! Our son bought our LF house and he works at Bowdoin College in Brunswick Maine. I know Lewiston well and have quite a few friends who still live there. I've always been connected with the area of Maine that we live in now as my family had a summer place here. We bought our land in 1993 and planned on retiring here full time. My husband retired from teaching and I worked a couple years longer to save up so we could move here full time. We live about 3 hours from Lewiston now.
It would be great talking with you. Sounds as though we have more in common than just quilting!

Virta Walter 07-11-2007 11:57 AM

Moonpi 07-11-2007 04:26 PM

hi newbies! One other suggestion not mentioned yet is to fill out your profile. The link is on the top section between chat and bookmarks. That way, we can tell where you are from without digging through old posts. It has room for anything else you'd like to share.

pinecone 07-11-2007 06:30 PM

Welcome, I am fairly new and it is a fun place to roam. BTW, check at the top of the page for "private messages". It took me some time to realize this on another forum.

2 Doods 10-02-2007 06:37 PM

I am new to quilting (mostly self taught) and new to this web site also. I just finished my first quilt. I was freaked about putting it together but a poster at a quilt shop I just found said "Better Finished than Perfect". I think I am to much of a perfectionist at times. This will be good for me.

I live in Oregon outside of Portland on 29 acres with my DH, 2 doodle dogs, 2 cats, and the 2 kids have just returned back to the nest. Guess I should have locked the door!

Love seeing all the pictues and reading all the tips.
