    sewjunkee

I just joined the message board and I am excited to learn and read all things posted. I recently bought a new Juki QVP and am learning as I go. I do have a question, I am having trouble with fraying of the thread at the needle and also skipped stitches. I am currently sewing the Signature thread and it also frays. Any ideas, or maybe another kind of thread?? Thanks so much!!

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. You could go to the Suerior Thread site and see if you have the right needle/ thread combination.

Welcome from OHIO! I agree, it sounds like it could be a needle problem, either the wrong size or an old needle. There's lots of good info here: www.superiorthreads.com

Welcome to the Quilting Board from Sunny Nevada! That's right! Jump right in with a question. We love questions! And superior threads IS the best site for thread. I use them exclusively: Masterpiece for piecing, King Tut for quilting, and their silk thread for applique. I was using another thread (from Connecting Threads - another great site!) and it did fine as long as I had my Brother Sewing machine. When that machine packed up, I bought a Janome, which I just love but it's fussier about thread. The threads I just mentioned do great with my Janome: no breaking, linting, or loose threads. So it could just be your Juki needing better thread.

You should check the tension too. If your machine does both embroidery as well as a sewing, your bottom tension could be way off. I'm not that familiar with Juki models to know if yours does this. Anyway, bobbin tension for embroidery is MUCH higher than for sewing, so if whomever set the tension gave you tension for embroidery, that could be your problem.

Around here, we are not shy about adjusting the bobbin tension. We'll teach you how if you don't know.

Thanks MacThayer, I will try the King Tut thread. I think I know how to adjust the bobbin thread, but a quick lesson would be helpful. I have wanted a long arm quilter, and now I have it, it is frustrating trying to work all the bugs out to be able to actually use it. I won't give up though. I have several quilt tops to quilt, and want to get started!!

A little about me. I have been sewing for a while, when a health issue arose. I've had both thumb joints replaced and now I have difficulty hand quilting, and machine was difficult as well. My husband bought me a Juki QVP quilter and I am able to quilt again!! Yeah, I can't get enough quilting. I am from Indiana. Is there anyone else from Indiana???

Congratulations on your new QVP. The dealer who sold you the machine should be well versed in helping you fix any issues. I am considering the same machine so I would love to hear what you think of it so far.
I have a Juki TL98Q which sometimes does not like certain threads. I was having shredding issues with Superior SoFine using a 90 titanium top stitch needle (bought from Superior). I switched to some rayon embroidery thread and had no problem. I did not try any of my other SoFine thread. I should try that.. lol.
Please, do share your experience with the QVP though... I'm on pins and needles here.
