I am new to quilting and was wondering if some of you experts could recommend an easy quilt pattern that only requires three (3) different colors--I really want to keep it simple so I don't get discouraged. I hope to make a queen/king quilt for my daughter but will have to muddle through on my own as there aren't any classes being offered in my area right now. Thanks for all the tips I've read so far--

Welcome. Something with just squares would be very easy, like a 9-patch or a Trip Around the World.

A disappearing 9 patch (D9P) works up nicely in 3 colors and so does a rail fence. This is a mystery quilt that only uses 3 fabrics:

This is the first quilt I ever made. I've made 4 of them as baby quilts using 4.5" blocks. If you look at the last page at the layout of the whole quilt, it's pretty easy to see what to do. I assemble mine in rows, not sections.

I suggest the Warm Wishes (free) pattern .... it always turns out perfect. Yes I'm serious. It does use 4 prints.

Hi :) Welcome from Minnesota!
My first quilt was a Rail Fence...only 3 different fabrics and no triangles.

Advice from a relative newbie: No triangles! Can you tell that those are my bugaboo? Rail fence is a great pattern and makes an amazing design. Looks like warm wishes would be wonderful also. And, just today, I saw a thread about the design called 'potato chip' or 'rainy day'. They seem to be made up in just two fabrics, but you can use three -- there are no quilt police here.

But if I were you, I'd maybe start smaller than a large bed quilt. Try a lap quilt first, and then move up!
