Yeah I tried this with a square 76" quilt and it told me I need 19 yards! I don't think so!

Thank-you for this link I have always just done a rough guesstamet in my head.
quiltmom04 this works great for small quilts that are up to 60" wide where you waste so much fabric getting 2 widths to sew together.

Thanks craftybear......this type of "arithmetic" makes sense to me...I hated grade school arithmetic...bkkg had a debit-credit-balance & quilting has a challenge that keeps me sew happy

I guess that I didn't understand this , Why would I want a diagonal backing, When I figured it out for a 65x 85 quilt with 3" on each side it came up with 8.6 yard. Seems a lot to me.I can use 6 yards by just piecing two 2.5 yard lengths together vertically. I know that I am not great at math but I drew this out and I think that 6 yards should do it. Unless there is a reason to use a diagonal.
