I know it isn't quilting, but I wanted to list this for those who would like to take a moment from the hustle and bustle of this coming weekend and spend it remembering why we have such a liberty...

SandraJennings;

Thank you for the reminder. Even though we have family who were soldiers, we forget too. (Thankfully, their type of service was needed in the states, so perhaps they don't count :?: )

Memorial Weekend usually means my Dad gets the day off, steaks, and my little sister's birthday is near. (May 30th).

I am greatful for their service and try to thank those still alive whenever I become aware of it. If I see someone with a licence plate, or some kind of patch or whatever, I'll find out if it's them or family and thank them for their service.

I will try, however, to remeber a moment of silence like the link you gave us suggested. 3pm wherever you are, or EST, etc.?

After 9/11 the National Guard were posted at our airports. I remember seeing one who was not busy at the time and suprised her by relating my gratitude. It really bugs me when people get all caught up in their own little world and forget why these people are doing what they are and can only complain about how they are being inconvenienced!

There! I THINK I'm done and will now climb off my soap box. :lol:

it's ok! The remembrance of humanity is, I believe, the key.....no matter how it was spent or lost. I hope I remember to think thankfully of all the lives who have gone before.....and leave something for those yet to come. It is one of the reasons we quilt...NO??
