Default Easier way to do fusible quilt blocks

This is so much easier to press down quilt appliques rather then have the entire applique covered by fusible.

If you ever watched Fons & Porter on PBS you probably have seen Mary Fons' applique shows. She has been doing this for years! I guess if it's new to you then it's new but this technique is not new. Interesting that among all those quilters in the video none seems to have been aware of this technique.

This technique is called *Windowing* . there are many tutorials using this technique. Save the pieces you cut out of the center for smaller appliques, you can also use them in the center of a piece to hold your appliques making it easy to hand stitch the non-fused edges

I have been doing this for quite a while also. I like the way it softens the quilt design. And you bet I also save any fusible that is big enough to be worthwhile for later use. Fusible isn't cheap so just like saving scraps of fabric, save those fusible scraps. Hmmm, I did not think about using a small piece to hold an applique in place before stitching. Thanks for that idea!

Thanks so much for the link. I would never have thought to do that but I love the idea of it. I don't do a lot of applique but some of mine does feel too stiff. This would definitely eliminate the problem.

If you use a pruduct called MistyFuse then your applique will remain soft. There are tutorials on this product on Utube, I used this product for my Toni Whitney's Mistral Horse recently posted.
