This economy is killing lots of small businesses. We closed down our longarm quilting biz in Oct last year. No sense in dealing with the tax bunch when our biz was $0 some months.

Come to NJ. I dropped off a quilt at the longarm place in January and it won't be done for at least another month. Another LAQer has more like a four-month backup. And I'm pretty sure they charge more here than away from the northeast. (This could be partly due to the fact that real estate is so expensive people cannot fit a longarm machine in their homes.)

We were average for our area. We live in a small, country county with lots of elderly on a fixed income. We still have friends that we quilt for. And, of course, all the quilts I make.
By the way, a quilt at the longarmer for 6 months would be a deal breaker for me!

That's the way it is here in Washington, 3 to 4 months out. But, boy am I ever having a hard time getting my longarm business going. I've done alot of charity quilts but not nearly as many customer quilts as I had hoped. I don't have any wait time at all. My website prices are lower than any around here and still not getting much yet.
