OOooh, cool pattern. Thanks for the links...not that I have any time to create Christmas presents but i may have to start a new tradition for my mom. One of those a year should keep her happy for a while until I finally get to make a quilt for her, that is. She's giving me a double wedding ring this Christmas (fingers crossed) and I know she's put tons of hours into it.

As far as this lady saying that you can't reproduce her ornaments, that's just nutty. I could take a pattern, make some and put up a warning, too but it's meaningless if you can prove that you got them elsewhere (like the site with the directions on it LOL). You're good to go, although I don't know anyone around here willing to pay 30 freaking dollars for one little ball. I'm with you, 10-15 in my neighborhood would be reasonable. The best part is that you'll use very little fabric. I already have a gameplan green & gold for mom, she'd like that and has commented on the 2 fabics I'm talking about before.

So, if I'm reading it correctly, she is saying that you CANNOT make the ornaments, but then again, she could be saying you CANNOT use the same fabric and make a ball that looks like hers.
I'm thinking she needs to check around the internet because I have seen MANY that look like hers, with charms, glitter and all.
I agree with you. That pattern has been around for a long time and it is not her design completely. I think she should check on your copyright laws a little more.

Terri there was a pattern for this ornament somewhere else on this forum.. I can't remember where now, but its here somewhere. I made the egg ornaments like this a few years ago and gave them as gifts. They were a real hit. hmmmm I wonder if I should try them again???

I"m going to give them a go.
WOn't be until next week tho.
I want to get a few lap quilts done this week. Well, the tops, that is, then work on a few totes.
I'm thinking doll quilts too, but not sure how those would go over.
I need to get going on table runners too.

I made these ornaments at least 25 years ago. They were lots of fun.

I want to see pictures. :)

OMG had to laugh when I took a closer look at her site....the children's section has licensed fabrics on each one. UM, I think a copyright infringement on it's own right there unless of course she's paying the companies :hunf: which looks a little doubtful.

It could be that her copyright is for her PHOTOGRAPHS, etc. I've seen many sites that don't want you to use their pictures - I think Karla has something like that on her site even.
You can copyright a written pattern, but I don't think you can stop someone from creating their own pattern or using a 'free' one to make a similar item.
Does that make sense?

I understand about the photos, but she has included pretty much everything.

Terri, someone on here posted those just recently and I believe it took me to a differnet web site than you posted. I will see if I can find it again.

FOUND IT! But don't know how to post page link here - It is under links and resources August 12, 2008 posted by thecalicocottage. It does take you to the same link you posted, but do look at the two she made - much nicer looking - at least I think so.

This lady is charging 26 dollars for each one. Hmm....I seem to have a sudden urge to pick up some styrofoam balls at the hobby lobby....LOL
