Please be aware that not all rufflers have a wide enough opening for the widest placement of your needle. I had one which was not wide enough and I mistakenly tried to stitch without moving the needle to the middle position. So it came down on the metal of the ruffler foot and jammed my machine. I am still trying to get it adjusted to sew right. My machine starts at the far left when it is first turned on.......But they are really handy to gather and ruffle.The setting of 1, 6, 11, star detemines how many stitches it takes before the ruffler lever pushes the fabric under the needle. The stitch length then can be used to give you the desired fullness. Use a scrap fabric and measure it. Then decide if you want it half the size or 2/3 size or 3/4 size. You can sew the ruffle right on to the other fabric if you put the straight piece on the bottom and the piece to be ruffled on the top. I have never had enough nerve to try this, but have seen it demonstrated.

Wow, I never knew this would work...and you don't have to use a special foot. I used to do a long basting stitch on my machine and then pull the thread tales. This is SO much easier!
