Default Merry Mayhem Mystery Quilt Part 1 up!

Every New Years' Day, Merry Mayhem does a mystery quilt by giving out one clue every hour throughout the day. They give all the requirements and cutting directions ahead of time so you are ready to sew.

The last two years, I have made lap sizes and have finished the tops both times, the day of the sew along.

It's a lot of fun and you just have to go to the website and subscribe and they will send you the links for Part 1, which is fabric selection and cutting.

It looks like she has options to purchase past mysteries on the site as well. Is the New Year's Day mystery free if you do it at that time, or is there a fee to participate?

You got me! I am up to a mystery quilt so this is a good place to start. Getting all the parts in a single day is an important way to do it. How many parts were in your last one?, and what if you miss an hour? Will you be able to catch up? I just picked up the first part.

Coffee girl and Juliasb , the mystery is always free. Some time afterwards she will stop the free downloads, and make the clues into one pattern you can purchase. So be sure to download all the clues as they come out. Then you can do them in your own timeframe. I’ve done several of her mysteries but I usually get all the clues and see the finished quilt first before starting. (I am not one for mysteries.)

That sounds like fun. My kids will be gone by the 1st. I may do it.
Thanks, Watson.

PS. Just printed the first one.

Thanks Watson. I’ve not done Merry Mayhem’s mystery quilt but will definitely give it a go this New Year’s Day...after I do my annual deep clean of my sewing studio.

juliasb.....if you miss an hour, the clue still stays there, so you can see it and catch up on your own time. You can even print out the whole thing later. As noted, eventually, she makes the pattern for sale only, so be sure to download it before that.

I found with the lap size I could keep up no problem going hour by hour and not knowing how it was going to turn out was fun for a small investment....I'm too chicken to do a large mystery quilt.

DD and I did this year after year. I think on the last year we didn't quite get it in gear (10 years ago?) and that was our last. But I have printed off this one and will ask her if she's any interest. I remember there being a chat too,,, which was loads of fun. One of us would do ironing, sewing, chatting and on it went, we really enjoyed it.

Well, DD is back from church, she took one look at it and went ooooo I so wanna do this! Are we doing this? So I guess we are on board.

Has anyone else chosen their fabrics? I'm not into green and rose so I'm wanting to to purple blue and green (nothing new there) and hoping to be able to pull from stash. I bought a bunch of clearance fabric 11-30 (bunch probably not gotten due to selling out before me) but it's not due in until 12-19. ooooo and my massive mat should be here by then too. But in the clearance I believe there might be enough of single pieces. We might have to choose to work the smaller one this time too. My health being what it is I need to start smaller. I want to go opposite end of the spectrum and hit dark colors. Yes please. :-)

I started a post in the Quilting Challenges section where this sort of thing is supposed to go so we can all participate and keep track of progress together. Here is the link. Merry Mayhem 2020 New Years' Day Mystery Quilt
