Hey there,
We held a contest this summer for our Idea Deck and received 162 fabric postcards from 58 card artists in 6 countries and 25 states. There's a wide variety of styles, from pictorial to abstract to traditional. Lots of techniques, too: embroidery, thread painting, applique, etc. You can explore the collection and watch the slideshow at: http://www.artcardideas.com/2007/artcardgallery/ |
Very interesting artwork, I was very impressed. I have done larger fabric art pieces, but never anything as small as a postcard

Hi Moonpi,
I didn't make any myself, but for all the artists, I say THANKS! :D They are pretty small, but to think the postcards are 4" x 6", and there are people working on inchies and inchie-plus items ...which are quilted and embellished 1" and 1-1/2" squares! Type inchie into Google and all kinds of blog links pop-up on it. Folks are making collages of the wee quilted bits, doing swaps for chains of them, etc. The postcards were introduced to me when I did a swap/exchange after signing up at http://www.art2mail.com/join.php I hear some quilters are doing these smaller projects for color studies and pattern/technique tests, but some just like the break of working at a smaller scale. ...and they really do go through the mail! |
