2,000+ fabric selvage strips

I have seen numerous post for quilters wanting selvage strips. There are a whole bunch of them up for sale....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...E:B:SS:US:1123

I have no connection with this seller. Just thought someone on this board would be delighted with this item.

Thanks - I have added it to my watch list - depending on the final bid, it could be a really good deal!

Notice, you are bidding on ONE boxful.

moonrise 05-21-2014 12:19 PM

Wow. The bidding has gotten crazy!

solstice3 05-21-2014 02:23 PM

Definitely crazy bidding

Yep. I'll bet they think they're bidding on the entire lot as shown -- which is how it should be -- rather than on just one of the boxes.

What does a person do with selvage strips?

I am working on a selvage quilt now but here's one of my other selvage projects: http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...o-t212359.html

If you were to assume that each of these strips was 1/2 of a Jelly roll width as it appears that some of the strips are about an inch or so wide. 2000 strips would equal 50 jelly rolls ( 40 strips per roll) divide that in half as the strips are half size, this would be the equivalent of about 25 jelly rolls, so that is not really a bad price especially in Canada. Or is my math totally off???

Sorry, looked at this again and saw that each strip is only 6 inches in length...not such a good deal.

Read the listing "many have the manufacturers info on them". That is really the only part that most selvage collectors/users want. The other blank selvage is useless. I think the bidders have not considered the wording of the advertisement. It is also not a good thing that the seller puts four boxes in the photo and is only selling one at a time. I dont think much of their honesty. Would not bid even if the box was full of good selvages.

just_the_scraps_m'am 05-22-2014 10:39 AM

don't think there's any way there is 2000 in ONE box!!!!!

sewbizgirl 05-22-2014 03:44 PM

I emailed the seller and she confirmed that these are 6" long strips of "varying widths". So they are like a bunch of bookmarks! I wonder if the bidders were paying attention... BIG surprise for them if they weren't!

The way the photo is angled, you can't see over the edge of the box and the strips appear to be long ones, folded-- when in actuality they are 6" cuts. VERY deceptive. Boo....on them.

moonrise 05-24-2014 05:05 AM

Wow, the bidding has gone even higher. I bet the bidders think they're getting all the boxes shown. The description does say "one" box, but from my past experience as an eBay seller, people often don't read. They just look at the pretty pictures. Hope the winner isn't disappointed.

AUQuilter 05-25-2014 01:38 PM

I too asked the bidder the same question as sewbizgirl regarding exactly what a bidder would get. One box of the selvage strips! I don't know enough about ebay to see why the question and their response did not show up in the "questions and answers about this item" section.

I guarantee you the bidder had no idea what they were bidding on. Shameful!
