I really like this one, saved for my wish list. Thanks for sharing.

this would make the perfect winter quilt...and heavy, thinking a lap quilt. Also I think you can use a seam ripper to rip the fabric.

That's a great tutorial , thanks for posting.

I bought a bunch of flannel last year from Joanne's for 1.99 a yard. I think I will try to make a baby quilt doing this method. Hopefully this will motivate me to clean and also use up some scraps to make a quilt top.

She lost me at, "I started by cutting 2500 2 inch by 2 inch squares." :p

I have one of those chenille cutters & so far have only made a potholder! I'd never thought of backing a whole quilt this way but what a good idea!

I have never thought of backing a quilt like this either. One thing though like rag quilts, if you don't have a washer with a lint trap consider taking it to the laundromat. Also I would use the chenille cutter -with a seam ripper you are going to probably five times the work - No way it is going to cut through all of those layers!

Here is one I found for sale that you could easily do with left over strips. http://www.overstock.com/Bedding-Bat...3/product.html

I like how she used three different fabrics for the flannel. I just might have to try it. She didn't use batting so do you not have to with this process?

Amazing several days ago I pulled out one of my UFO's a rug from several years ago to finsh and started working on it, guess what it is...lol. Yes that right! I have had it pined and layed for years and the lines where all drawed in and about 1/3 of the sewing done. I decided to take a break while it still siting on my sewing machine with the needle down on one of the lines right now and I open this post. I have the chenille cutter. Seeing this will help make me finally finsh the rug...Thanks for the link!

correct, no batting needed since you have several layers of flannel. I am going to did through my stash and find my cheap flannel fabrics. I like how they did it on overstock also.

:p DITTO ... LOL ;)

I would start by cutting a slew of 2 1/2" strips, making sets etc, 5x5 block? Easily done , mix up several strips, sub cut and mix it up. 2500 squares? Sure, but not individually! Smarter, not harder!!

very nice, thanks

jmoore 01-01-2014 04:02 PM

wow... not counting the 2500 squares, I think this would be a great and cozy project. One could easily do the chenille backing on a Yellow Brick Road or Turning Twenty top
