everyone - this is the anita solomon book on her method of pp. as i see it, the only difference is that you break up a block into sub-units on one sheet of paper and attach WITHOUT separating. in that way, if you line it up right, it will automatically line up perfectly. you can only make a 6" block because paper is 8.5 x 11. so here goes. i hope this is legible. if not i won't continue. remember, this is just the intro.

well, that didn't work. sorry all. the point is that you fold your paper into units. you paste in your precut fabric shapes. you fold on your precreased lines.
everything lines up beautifully (it really does).

i don't see it as time saving. it's a nuisance to precut all those shapes. after everything has been sewn you have creased paper between the fabrics. you then have to go back and tear the paper off, so you can press.

you can't go over 6", because paper is 8.5 x 11. IMHO, my kids wasted $29.95.

I tried paper piecing and liked it so I bought a book,paper and special pins. When I got everything gathered and ready to start I totally forgot how to do it and can not remember or figure it out. I guess its not for me either.

BFW and Amma - I've used Anita's method for paper-piecing blocks LARGER than the ones in her book. It involves a bit of work, but I like the precision of paper-piecing, so for me, it's worth the extra work.

I ALWAYS cut templates for paper-piecing, because it means no wasting of fabric. Paper-piecing doesn't save time - it leads to precision piecing.

I use 1/4" graph paper to create blocks bigger than the ones in the book. Then I trace them on TISSUE paper with a Sharpie pen, which I but by the butt-load at Costco. When you finish paper-piecing, tissue-paper tears off VERY easily. It sounds like a lot of work, but if it's a block with several points, it's worth it.

Klue recently posted info about another paper that she REALLY likes for paper-piecing (on the Christmas Dear Jane Swap thread). She says it's cheap and easy to tear off. I'll try that when I get around to it LOL

I designed my own block for the black and white swap - Tumbling Zebras -and put it together using Anita's methodology. There really was NO other way to make it come out 'right' besides paper piecing. It took me several drafts to get it right. The final design looked very funny on paper - because it zig-zagged on both side edges - but the result was worth it.

By 'right' I mean that I wanted the triangles to be tumbling off the centers
of the triangle below them. I thought I still had the pictures of the Tumbling Zebra block in my computer to show you, but I don't. Let me know if you want to see it, and I'll take another tomorrow post it on this thread.

i'll have to try it again, but i really don't expect a different feeling for it. each time i make a new block i have my dh cut a piece of plastic for me that he gets at home depot. that way i have a template for each piece that won't wear down on the sides and change the size. it's worth the (his) effort to have the set of templates for a bed size quilt of many blocks. :lol:

BFW - no current plans to blow thru NJ to VA. My back is 'out' - so chiro says no road trips for a while. And I have to set the timer for 30 min for 'puter & sewing machine. Poop :thumbdown: I have a LOT of machine quilting to do.
